Bokaro: Insurer told to pay Rs 10 lakh to widow for wrongful rejection of death claim


Bokaro: The chairman of District Consumer Redressal Commission, JPN Pandey ordered SBI Life Insurance Company to pay 10 lakh rupees immediately to a woman for wrongfully rejecting a claim against the death of her husband. The district consumer court also directed insurance company to pay Rs 15000 as compensation for mental and physical harassment caused to complainant Sundari Devi and Rs 7000 as litigation expenses.

It was told that the complainant’s late husband Mithilesh Kewat had taken SBI Life Insurance. In which Rs 14 lakh was to be received as maturity. After depositing three installments, the complainant’s husband died. Thereafter, the complainant made an insurance claim. In lieu of the claim, the company returned four lakh rupees of the three installments deposited. While ten lakh was not given saying that her husband was already ill. He had got insurance by hiding his illness.

After this, the complainant filed a suit in the commission through a lawyer Pushpanjali. The chairman of the commission, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, came to the decision that the insurance company had committed error in service. On this basis the chairman of the commission has given this decision in favour of the complaint Sundari Devi.
