Revolutionising flat steel processing with cutting-edge innovations at International Conference in Bokaro


Bokaro: The two-day international conference “APT-FS 2024” on the theme “Advances in Processing Technology of Flat Steel Products,” jointly organized by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and the Indian Institute of Metals, Bokaro Chapter, successfully concluded on 21 September at BSL’s Learning and Development Center. The conference brought together over 100 experts, researchers, and engineers from India and abroad who presented more than 30 technical papers on the latest developments in flat steel processing technology and exchanged valuable insights.

Presentations on Technical Topics 
On the second day of the conference, several key technical papers were presented. These included topics such as the production of advanced hot-rolled steel sheets for hot forming applications, prediction of microstructure and mechanical properties during hot rolling, prevention of edge sliver defects, mitigation of double-edge defects, reduction in pap coil generation, the role of pre-coating in galvanizing and galvannealing of high-strength steel, and the development of rolling oils. The conference also discussed future industry needs, with a focus on flat steel products developed by industrial and research institutions, and shared insights on the ongoing efforts to improve processing technologies.

Presence of Senior Officials at the Closing Ceremony 
The closing session of the conference was graced by BSL Director-in-Charge BK Tiwari, Secretary General of the Indian Institute of Metals, Kolkata, Brigadier Arun Ganguly, Executive Director (Human Resources and Additional Charge Operations) Rajan Prasad, Executive Director (Mines) Jaydeep Dasgupta, Chief General Manager (Quality) Manohar Lal, and other senior officials. During the closing remarks, the speakers emphasised the significance of this two-day conference as a crucial step in understanding and adopting the latest global advancements in flat steel product processing technology.

Experts at the conference also emphasised the importance of innovation in processing technologies, keeping in mind future challenges and changing industry demands. The focus was on improving the quality of flat steel products and addressing various technical challenges faced during production.
