Bokaro: In a significant recognition of its dedicated efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), DPS Bokaro has been conferred with the prestigious SDGs School Award. The United Nations 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goals to prioritise environmental stability and growth is a pathbreaking initiative that has been incorporated into the school education arena. DPS Bokaro was the only institution from Bokaro district to receive this esteemed accolade for the relentless initiatives taken to advocate sustainability.
The Principal Dr. A. S. Gangwar was honoured at the Educational Leadership Conclave 2025, held at the India International Centre in New Delhi on Sunday. The event organised by the Centre for Educational Development (CED) Foundation (affiliated with NITI Aayog, Government of India and MSME), saw a gathering of educationists and school leaders from across the country.
The award was presented to Dr. Gangwar in the presence of luminaries, including Dr. Bijaya Kumar Malik, Associate Professor, NPEP, NCERT; Jaideep Das, Ex. Joint Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Dr. Priyadarshi Nayak, Chairman of CED Foundation.
Over the years, DPS Bokaro has made a concerted effort to implement environmental friendly practices and policies across all aspects of school life. This includes reducing energy consumption through the use of renewable energy sources, promoting recycling and waste reduction.
One of the most notable initiatives that the school implemented is the installation of solar panels on the roof of the school building. This not only helps to reduce the carbon footprint but also serves as a valuable educational tool for students, teaching them about the importance of renewable energy and the benefits of using clean energy sources. The school also has a comprehensive recycling programme, with recycling bins and composting stations.
It has also implemented a “no single-use plastic” policy and encourages the use of reusable containers and water bottles. These initiatives have helped in diverting a significant amount of waste from landfills and reduce our overall environmental impact. Most importantly the school has resolved to emerge as a Zero-waste School by the end of this session. Under this the school has also established an Eco Club that is spearheading a special campaign to make the entire school campus hundred percent waste-free.
Dr. Gangwar expressed his delight on this coveted achievement and attributed the success to the collective efforts of the students, parents, teachers and all the stakeholders in making environmental protection initiatives successful. He encouraged the members of the DPS Bokaro family to maintain a coordination between the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development.
