Bokaro: In a significant move to bridge traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, Guru Gobind Singh Educational Societies Technical Campus (GGSESTC), Engineering and Management College, Bokaro, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhendra Tools Industries Producer Company Limited, Gram Bhendra, Nawadih block, Bokaro district.

The agreement was signed by the college director, Dr. Priyadarshi Jaruhar, and Bhendra head, Naresh Vishwakarma. Also present at the event were Gopal Vishwakarma and Panchu Bihari from Bhendra.
Bhendra, often referred to as the “Sheffield of Jharkhand,” was established by Sher Shah Suri in the 15th century and has been historically renowned for the production of iron tools and weapons. During the British era, the village became notable for manufacturing bal-pen hammers used in railways.

Priyadarshi Jaruhar explained that the MoU aims to create a mutually beneficial partnership by combining Bhendra’s traditional iron craft with contemporary engineering technology. “The initiative will provide engineering students with practical knowledge of modern technology applied to traditional craftsmanship,” he said.
On this occasion, the chief guest, the institution’s esteemed secretary, Surendra Pal Singh, honoured Naresh Vishwakarma with a ceremonial shawl. In return, Mr. Vishwakarma presented Singh with handcrafted gifts and extended an invitation to visit Bhendra.
The ceremony took place in the college’s Student Parliament Hall, attended by all faculty members. The program was conducted by Prof. Vikas Jain, while the institution’s president, Tarsem Singh, extended his congratulations and best wishes to both parties.
This collaboration is expected to provide students with hands-on experience in traditional metalwork while promoting the rich heritage of Bhendra’s iron craftsmanship.
