Bokaro: Bokaro Congress submits eight-point demand letter to DC Ajay Nath Jha, seeking local recruitment, wage revision, farmer training, CSR infrastructure, and women’s empowerment initiatives at Vedanta ESL Steel Limited. The local Congress leaders that demands pending may trigger Congress-led movement. The Bokaro District Congress Committee President, Jawahar Lal Mahatha, met District Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha at his office and submitted an eight-point demand letter seeking action on several pressing community issues.
Demands Include Local Recruitment and Wage Revision
The letter calls for 100% local recruitment across all positions, wage revision for workers under existing pay rules, and continued engagement of local vendor code holders. It also stresses that genuine laborers should receive direct benefits, ensuring fair treatment and compensation.
Infrastructure and Training Programs Requested
The District Congress demands regular training for farmers, distribution of modern agricultural equipment, and establishment of CSR-funded facilities including training institutes, technical colleges, hospitals, waste management plants, stadiums, and parks. A women’s training center to promote self-reliance was also part of the proposals.
Warning of Movement if Demands Ignored
Congress leaders warned that if these demands are not addressed within 15 days, the Congress party would be compelled to launch a movement. He highlighted that locals had contributed land to establish the ESL Steel Plant with expectations of regional development. However, he claimed exploitation of local residents and workers since the plant became operational and has caused widespread resentment in the area.
