In past one and half months span, 18 employees of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) had died due to Covid-19 virus. Sources said, that more than 648 employees tested positive in this month. Of them, 20 percent are being treated in Bokaro General Hospital (BGH). The remaining 80 percent of employees are in home isolation. This includes officials also, apart from doctors and nurses. The majority of employees who got infected with the virus have their family members also tested positive. In the past one year, more than 1100 BSL employees tested positive. Of them, 70 percent of employees got infected with the virus in second wave. This has raised concern of BSL management. However, in order to prevent corona infection, a number of measures are being taken by BSL management including testing, vaccination, sanitization, fogging, awareness, and others inside and outside the plant. BSL is a unit of Steel Authourity of India Limited (SAIL). In SAIL the death toll of employees is said to be 200 while 6000 employees got infected with the virus.

District health department has show-caused Dr Vikas of Chas Sub-Divisional Hospital after an audio recording of his phone conversation goes viral. In the audio he was heard demanding bribe for a post mortem report. Dr Vikas was allegedly heard demanding bribe of Rs 75,000 from a person Hemant Tigga for providing him a post mortem report of his father Hilarous Tigga. Doctor was also heard threatening Hemant to give a false post mortem, by writing that the deceased had died due to a liver problem and was alcoholic, if he not paid the sum. Hemant was heard pleading doctor that his father was non-alcoholic. “We have issued show-cause to Dr Vikas giving a time 48 hours’ to justify his stand, or otherwise necessary action will be taken against him,” said Dr A K Pathak, civil surgeon, Bokaro. The deceased was bank employee and died on a way while returning home few days ago. Dr Vikas had given the post mortem report mentioning that he died of heart attack. Dr Vikas however said that the allegation levelled against him is false. He was trapped in a controversy.

Three trains including Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Special have been cancelled. It has been announced by Ranchi and Dhanbad Railway Division on Thursday. In the month of May, five long and short route trains that go via Bokaro have been cancelled. As per the announcement made by the Railways, Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Special as well as Train No. 03303 Dhanbad – Ranchi Express Special (Intercity) and Train No. 03320 Ranchi – Deoghar Express Special trains will be cancelled from May 23 till further orders. The Rajdhani Special has been cancelled since May 21. In this crisis of Corona, very few passengers are traveling by railway. It is being told that railway is cancelling trains due to poor occupancy. It started with the cancellation of the Howrah Shatabdi Special in the first week of this month. After this, the train number 58033/58034 Bokaro- Ranchi Passenger was also cancelled two days ago.

The legislature of Bokaro, Biranchi Narayan on Thursday raised voice against chief minister Hemant Soren for discriminating residents of Bokaro by providing very few vaccines in comparison to the other districts of state. He demanded from CM to allot 40,000 (forty thousand) vaccines for Bokaro residents without delay. MLA also told mediapersons that “Soren’s government is very much selective in providing vaccines to the constituency where BJP had won the seat. The government is doing heavy allotment of vaccines to the assembly constituencies having JMM legislatures, that even if there is a low requirement. But at BJP pockets it reduced vaccine supplies intentionally”.

Three villagers died and four have been injured due to lightning strike at a well construction site where they are working in Chaiyatand village of Chute panchayat under Chatrochatti police station under Gomia block on Thursday evening. The deceased have been identified as Tulsi Mahto (55) and his wife Punki Devi (45) and Kaushalya Devi (45). Mahto and Punki are the parents of panchayat committee member Raju Mahato of Chute Panchayat. The other four injured- Bisheshwar Mahto (55) Dumi Singh (52), Kisun Singh (55) and Lalan Singh (52) are MGNREGA labours working in construction of well under the scheme. Gomia MLA, Lambodar Mahto reached the spot to assess the situation.

Two panchayats of Nawadih block have an outbreak of viral fever these days. At present 53 villagers in Mungorangamati and 41 residents in Pokharia Panchayat are suffering from cold-cough and fever. Sources said that almost all the members of tribal dominated villages Panchferi and Nawadih Kalan of Mungorangamati Panchayat are suffering from this disease. Due to the lack of medical facilities in this area, all of them are being forced to seek treatment from a local rural doctor and quacks.

Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Singh on Thursday stated that the Anganwadi workers, Sahia and women self-help groups are being involved in the prevention of corona infection in rural areas. The district administration is fully prepared to prevent the spread of corona infection in rural areas. The administration has made pulse oximeters available to them. Anganwadi workers, Sahia and women groups will go to villages and check the oxygen level of the villagers with pulse oximeter and also prepare lists of people with symptoms of corona.

Rotary club of Bokaro Midtown Couples have revamped Kalyaneshwari Mid High School situated in a village called Bahadarpur of Kasmar Block. When the Club’s committee visited the school early in March they saw substantial lack in basic amenities. They found that toilet lack water and lots of civil repairs and maintenance was urgently required. In month of April the club began civil repairs and white washing of school buildings, construction of civil structure, installation of submersible pump, pipelining and fitting of toilet pans washbasin & tiles.
Club president Punit Johar said that with the school management and village people they have given a written request to the DC for the construction of boundary wall of the school.
