From April 22, 2024, until further notice, classes from primary wing to 8th grade in all types of schools, including government, non-government aided, unaided (including minority), and private institutions, will operate from 7:00 am to 11:30 am. Classes for students in grades 9 and above will take place from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon.
The usual prayer meetings, sports, and other afternoon activities will be suspended due to the heatwave. However, the mid-day meal program will continue without disruption, as mentioned in the circular.
A separate decision will be made regarding measures to compensate for any loss of children’s education during this period. Parents, students, and staff are advised to stay updated as further orders may be issued depending on the state of the heatwave.
School Timings Changed Due to Rising Heat
Mahendra Rai, Bokaro District President of Jharkhand Parents Association, noted that Jharkhand State President Ajay Rai had approached the State Education Secretary to request a shift in school timings due to the soaring temperatures. Today, the Education Secretary issued an order to adjust the school hours.
Rai highlighted the challenges posed by the intense heat and hot winds across the state, emphasising the need for the state government and district administration to evaluate the heat levels for the sake of children’s health and consider closing schools if necessary. He stated that the heat levels in different districts have risen to the point where sending children to school has become challenging.
Expressing gratitude to the Education Secretary, Rai said the new order would significantly benefit children’s health, as the increasing heatwave posed a serious risk to their well-being.
