Bokaro: Following a respite from the heatwave and improved weather conditions, the Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department issued an order for government and private schools to resume regular schedules starting May 13, 2024. This marks a reversal from the previous directive, which had altered school schedules due to the heat.
Private Schools Maintain Summer Vacation Plans
Despite the government’s directive, private schools in Bokaro have chosen to adhere to their original summer vacation schedules. Five prominent schools in Bokaro—Delhi Public School (DPS), Sree Ayyappa Public School (SAPS), Guru Gobind Singh Public School (GGPS), Pentecostal Assembly School, and Chinmaya Vidyalaya—will begin classes after the planned summer break.

Parents Express Relief
This decision to stick to the original vacation schedule has brought relief to parents who had already planned their summer holidays based on the previously announced school calendar. Concerns arose when the government’s new directive began circulating on social media, prompting confusion and worry among parents.
School Principals Respond
DPS Bokaro principal, Dr. A S Gangwar, said that they would proceed according to their almanac. “Parents have already made their plan so we will go as per our Almanac,” he said.
Similarly, Sree Ayyappa Public School principal, P. Shailja Jayakumar, confirmed that classes would reopen post-summer vacation, acknowledging parents’ pre-planned trips.
Other School Leaders Follow Suit
Principals from other schools, including Soumen Chakraborty of GGPS, Karuna Prasad of Pentecostal Assembly School, and Suraj Sharma of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, also confirmed that their schools would begin classes after the summer vacation as scheduled.
Government Order to Resume Regular Classes
The government directive issued on Friday directed all schools in Jharkhand, including both government and private institutions, to resume their regular schedules beginning May 13. This applies to all grades, from kindergarten to higher education, following earlier heatwave-induced changes that suspended classes for younger students and shortened hours for older ones.
Despite the state government’s directive for a uniform return to regular schedules, many private schools remain committed to their summer vacation plans, providing reassurance and stability to families who had already made travel arrangements.
