In a startling turn of events on Monday night, a groom, hailing from Katras (Dhanbad), found himself at a police station instead of his wedding venue in Bokaro. The incident unfolded in the Balidih police station area in Bokaro, reportedly sparked by a dispute, which ultimately thwarted the marriage.

The disagreement stemmed from the Mangalsutra brought by the groom, made of City Gold, which triggered ire from the bride’s relatives. Tensions escalated to such an extent that the wedding ceremony was abandoned, leaving the guests to hurriedly vacate the premises. Both parties involved in the dispute subsequently lodged complaints at the police station.
The bride’s family submitted a written complaint accusing the groom’s side of dowry demands, citing an alleged request for an additional two lakh rupees on the wedding night, which they couldn’t fulfill. They claimed to have already disbursed around Rs 2.5 lakhs since the engagement.
Named in the complaint were the groom, Hemant, along with his father, mother, and brother, residents of Katras Bazar, Dhanbad district.
In contrast, the groom’s family refuted allegations of dowry, asserting their stance against accepting dowry from the outset. They clarified that the disagreement didn’t revolve around dowry but the type of Mangalsutra. They admitted to receiving Rs 10,101 during a prior event and Rs 22,000 as personal assistance from the bride’s side. Despite their readiness for marriage, they lamented the bride’s family’s refusal to proceed with the ceremony.
