Bokaro: Roshan Mishra, an art teacher at Delhi Public School (DPS) in Bokaro, has garnered attention for his exceptional talent in painting. Mishra has been awarded a scholarship worth Rs 3 lakh for his outstanding performance in a prestigious international art competition.

His artwork, depicting the essence of the universe’s existence and human struggle, secured the 14th position globally in the International Online Art Exhibition Award event organised by the Skill Development Drawing Literacy Mission. This achievement makes him the sole artist from Jharkhand to accomplish such a feat in the competition.
Mishra’s painting, selected in the A grade category, has earned him a monthly scholarship of Rs 26,210 for one year, totaling Rs 3,14,520, along with an additional reward of Rs 12,980. Furthermore, he has received a special citation from the Department of Art and Culture, Government of India, recognising his artistic prowess.
Dr. A.S. Gangwar, the Principal of DPS Bokaro, extended his congratulations to Mishra on behalf of the school during a special event organized to celebrate his achievement. He described Mishra’s success as a moment of pride not only for the school and Bokaro but for the entire state of Jharkhand.
Overcoming Adversity with Artistic Passion
Despite facing adversity following the loss of his parents, Roshan Mishra, aged 34, remained steadfast in pursuing his passion for painting. Encouraged by his late father, Gajadhar Mishra, and mother, Shukla Mishra, Mishra found solace and inspiration in art during challenging times. He emphasized that his love for colors and the vibrant world of art kept him motivated throughout his journey.
Mishra expressed his gratitude towards the DPS Bokaro family and particularly acknowledged the guidance provided by Principal Dr. Gangwar.
Recognition on National and International Platforms
Originally hailing from Tundi, Dhanbad, and currently residing in Sector-1 of Bokaro, Mishra has showcased his talent in painting exhibitions across India and even internationally in Kathmandu (Nepal) and Paris. His artistic endeavors have earned him international accolades twice, highlighting his exceptional skills in the realm of art.
In addition to his prowess in painting, Mishra is also passionate about literature. He writes poetry and was awarded a special scholarship by Lalitkala Academy, New Delhi, for his research on life and existence two years ago. Mishra draws inspiration from renowned painters such as Raja Ravi Varma and S.S. Raja and aspires to foster artistic creativity among children to uphold India’s rich cultural heritage.
Honours and Awards
Mishra’s contributions to the field of art have been recognised with prestigious awards, including the Sidhu Kanhu Kala Ratna Award 2024. He was honored for his remarkable presentation in the International Online Painting Exhibition and was the sole representative from Jharkhand at the Ramotsav National Painter Camp held at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Ayodhya.
Notably, Mishra’s colleague, Sunil Kumar, a senior art teacher at DPS Bokaro, was also recently honored with the MF Hussain Award and awarded a scholarship of over Rs 3 lakh, further highlighting the school’s commitment to nurturing artistic talent.
