Bokaro: Another bright and talented student of Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro has made his alma mater, city and state proud on the national platform. Ayan Kumar Dey, an alumnus of this school, has secured the AIR 3 in the prestigious Combined Defence Services (CDS) – 2 Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Along with AIR 3 in the Indian Naval Academy (INA), he also secured AIR 17 in the merit list of the Indian Military Academy (IMA). However, he has chosen the Military Academy and his training for joining as a Lieutenant will commence from July this year at the IMA in Dehradun. Earlier, he had secured special entry based on NCC at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai and secured 13th rank in the country. He was the only one selected from Jharkhand in OTA, Chennai.

There is an atmosphere of ecstasy and pride in the DPS Bokaro family on his success. School Principal, Dr. A.S. Gangwar congratulated him for his phenomenal success and wished him a bright future. He said that DPS Bokaro provides its students with every opportunity and platform so that they can choose their career according to their interests and build their future.
He added that Ayan is an inspiration to the coming generation of Dipsites. His iconic success is a matter of pride not only for the school but for the entire Bokaro. It is noteworthy that this milestone achievement of Ayan has been a result of his consistent hardwork, dedication, perseverance and his never-say-die spirit.
Born on July 2, 2001, Ayan, son of Sangam Kumar Dey a Tata Steel (Ghato, West Bokaro) employee and homemaker Poppy Dey, a resident of Ramgarh, had always dreamt of joining the Indian army and serve the country. He had a deep inclination to serve in the army since his childhood, said- “now I will wholeheartedly serve my nation and make my country proud.”
In a special conversation, he said that since his primary schooling was from Army Public School, Ramgarh and his family had relatives, grandfather, uncle and others in the army, the atmosphere and interest had initiated from there. Apart from this, he is also influenced by his classmate Shubham Jha. His father Satishchandra Jha was involved in the Kargil War.
Ayan said that people definitely do national service through other professions as well, but he had a desire to serve the nation 24×7, by putting his life at stake. Now, after a year and a half of training, he will be commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army with ‘A’ grading.
Ayan was a student of 2018 batch at DPS Bokaro of Jamuna House. He is also proficient in software development. He qualified the 12th standard examination in the science stream with 85.6% marks. While, in 2016, he passed 10th from Army Public School, Ramgarh with 10 CGPA. After DPS Bokaro, he completed his B.Tech from Bangalore and also started working as a software developer in a corporate sector. Meanwhile, the preparation for Defence continued and eventually he turned his dream into reality.
Ayan said that the opportunity to be aware of the outside world, a healthy competitive environment and self-assessment that he got at DPS Bokaro and the guidance he received from the teachers here played an important role in his success. He also attributed the credit to his family. Ayan has a younger sister who passed 12th this year.
Ayan, who hails from a Bengali family, has also inherited the quality of music. He is fond of singing and playing along with studies. He likes to play tabla-‘pakhawaj’. He was a good soccer player in school too and used to bring laurels for his House (Jamuna). He considers former Indian skipper ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni as his ideal in his life. He added that Dhoni came from a small town and reached the pinnacle of success on his own merit. He also has a unique ability to handle highly pressurized situations with composure, which has always inspired him.
