Bokaro: In a meeting held at Bokaro Niwas on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha emphasised the need for a joint initiative between the district administration and Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) to transform education, sports, and cultural sectors in the district. He said the goal is to create an inclusive, modern, and creative society by taking meaningful and concrete steps in these areas.
Proposal for a State-of-the-Art Digital Library
DC Jha announced plans to establish a modern e-library equipped with advanced computer systems. This digital library will provide students with access to global educational resources and prestigious libraries. It will include a vast collection of books in Hindi literature, Jharkhandi folk literature, English, and other international languages. Facilities like high-speed Wi-Fi, e-books, video lectures, virtual seminars, and digital notes will make it a research and study hub for the district’s youth.
District-Level Sports Committee and Annual Calendar
To strengthen sports infrastructure and talent in Bokaro, the Deputy Commissioner directed the formation of a district-level sports committee. A dedicated annual sports calendar will be introduced, featuring competitions in football, taekwondo, archery, badminton, and athletics. Special emphasis will be placed on talent identification and training through events held at school, college, and panchayat levels.
Revival of Traditional Indian Games
In an effort to reconnect children with India’s traditional sports heritage, DC Jha called for organizing competitions in games like Gilli-Danda, Pitthu, Banti, Tug of War, Kabaddi, and Kho-Kho. These games will be hosted at panchayat, block, and district levels to revive collective play culture and preserve cultural identity.
Grand Book Fair and Literary Events
DC Jha proposed organising a grand book fair in Bokaro featuring national and regional publishers. The event will offer a diverse selection of books in Hindi, English, Jharkhandi literature, children’s books, and competitive exam materials. Associated activities like Kavi Sammelans, author dialogues, story readings, and literary workshops will cultivate a passion for reading and language appreciation among the public.
Film Festivals and Theatre for Young Creators
The administration also plans to host film festivals and theatrical events to provide a platform for local filmmakers and theatre artists. Socially themed short films, documentaries, and stage dramas will be showcased, fostering creativity and encouraging dialogue on social issues.
Open Conference Spaces in City Parks
DC Jha urged BSL management to develop open conference halls and theatres in public parks. These venues will serve as platforms for students, artists, and residents to present ideas, host performances, and engage in community discussions.
Bokaro to Set a Statewide Example
Concluding the meeting, DC Jha stated that the ultimate objective is to make Bokaro a model district in education, sports, and culture. “Children must learn, play, and communicate thoughtfully. These steps are the foundation for long-term social transformation,” he added.
