In the financial year 2023-24, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has notched up its most remarkable performance to date, marking several milestones in production, dispatch, and techno-economic parameters.

This fiscal year witnessed record-breaking achievements in oven pushing, gross sinter production, hot metal output from four furnace operations, crude steel production from SMS-New, total crude steel, CR salable production, as well as overall energy consumption and other techno-economic parameters. Additionally, BSL recorded a new high in dispatching granulated slag.
Notable Increase in Major Products
Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has reported a significant surge in major product outputs in the financial year 2023-24 compared to the previous fiscal year. Notably, hot metal production reached 4,725,529 tonnes, crude steel production stood at 4,309,143 tonnes, salable steel production totaled 3,989,921 tonnes, and dispatch of salable steel from four furnace operations hit 4,006,700 tonnes – the highest figure since the establishment of Bokaro Steel Plant.
Consequently, BSL witnessed a rise of approximately 4.6% in hot metal production, 4.7% in crude steel production, 7.6% in CR salable steel, and 3.8% in total salable steel compared to FY 2022-23. Moreover, Bokaro Steel Plant achieved numerous daily, monthly, quarterly, and half-yearly records during FY 2023-24.
Management Acknowledgement and Encouragement
Executive Director (Operations) Birendra Kumar Tiwari toured various departments of the plant on April 1st, extending congratulations to the entire BSL team – comprising officers, workers, and contract workers – for this remarkable feat. Tiwari motivated them to further elevate their performance levels in the new fiscal year, urging a focus on safety and quality while advancing operations.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the Maharatna Public Sector Company under the Ministry of Steel, reached unprecedented production milestones in hot metal, crude steel, and salable steel during the financial year 2023-24, marking a significant achievement. SAIL experienced a 6% growth in hot metal production, 5% growth in crude steel production, and 7% growth in salable steel production in FY 2023-24 compared to the previous fiscal year.
The company recorded outputs of 20.5 million tonnes of hot metal, 19.2 million tonnes of crude steel, and 18.4 million tonnes of salable steel. Furthermore, SAIL achieved its highest-ever sales of 17.1 million tonnes during FY 2023-24, marking a growth of over 5% compared to the corresponding period in the preceding fiscal year.
