Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has stepped up preparations for the SA 8000 surveillance audit to be conducted from September 21. BSL’s Social Performance Team (SPT) constituted for the SA 8000:2014 Standard met on Tuesday in the Ispat Bhawan Committee Room.
During the meeting, general manager, Business Excellence, B Banerjee discussed social risk metrics, internal audit reports, and responsibilities of the social performance team. Also during the program, the members of the social performance team provided valuable suggestions for improvement.
SA 8000:2014 is the current version of SA8000 Standard. It is the leading social certification standard for factories and organizations across the globe. SA8000 measures social performance in eight areas important to social accountability in workplaces, anchored by a management system element that drives continuous improvement in all areas of the Standard, said BSL sources.
Elements of the SA8000 Standard are- Child Labour, Health and Safety, Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining, Discrimination, Disciplinary Practices, Working Hours, Remuneration and Management System, said BSL sources.
General manager of Business Excellence along with deputy general manager (Safety), J Jaiswal, deputy general manager (Town Services – Horticulture), S Jha along with other officers of Blast Furnace, RGBS, OG, Project, Personnel Department and other departments were present in the meeting.
