Executives threaten massive agitation, if SAIL not provide jobs to dependents of employees died of corona


Bokaro: With the second wave of coronavirus shows downtrend and situation gradually improving, executives working in different plants and units of Steel Authourity of India Limited (SAIL) have started raising voice for the ex-gratia and employment to the dependents of the deceased employees who died of Covid-19. The steel plants in SAIL reported a huge number of deaths of executives and employees in the second wave.

SAIL’s steel plants including Bhilai, Bokaro, Rourkela, IISCO, Durgapur and others units have reported deaths. The death figure of employees due to Covid was highest in Bhilai, said sources. Steel Executive Federation of India (SEFI) Council hold meeting on Saturday through virtual platform and decided to raise demand to provide employment to the dependents of deceased employees died due to COVID-19, like other PSUs.

President of Bokaro Steel Officer Association (BSOA), A K Singh, who is also a SEFI member, said “in meeting, we expressed grave dissent over the inordinate delay in resolution of issues pertaining to the executive collective. This includes implementation of 3rd Pay Revision of Executives w.e.f 01.01.2017, resolution of JO 2008-10 batch Pay fixation and employment to the dependents of deceased employees died of corona”.

In the meeting, it was also decided that if the above issues are not addressed and resolved by SAIL management within the next 15 days, SEFI will launch massive agitation in all its units and steel plants. “We will start with peaceful demonstration including mass signature campaign from 11 June, then will stage black badge protest on 21 June and also take out candle march on 19 July”.

Singh pointed that “SEFI Council also demands immediate Covid – 19 vaccination for all employees and their dependents SEFI council will again meet on June, 28 for next course of action”.
