Bokaro: Sree Ayyappa Public School in Bokaro celebrated the South Indian festival of Vishu Kani today with great enthusiasm, marking the start of the New Year in Kerala. This event brought together students and teachers to celebrate the occasion with traditional rituals, vibrant displays, and cultural performances.Vishu Kani Setup Symbolises Prosperity and Reflection
A day before the festival, the school prepared a traditional Vishu Kani display. A bronze vessel (Urli) was filled with new grains, vegetables, raw mango, cucumber, jackfruit, betel leaves, nuts, mirror, gold coins, and an idol of Lord Krishna. Each item in the setup represented different aspects of prosperity and the new year. The mirror, symbolising self-reflection, encouraged introspection among students and staff alike.
Cultural Performances Add Color to the Celebrations
The school premises were beautifully decorated with colorful rangoli and oil lamps. Students also presented a traditional tableau of Lord Krishna, adding a lively touch to the festival. The event included the distribution of kheer, a traditional sweet dish, to everyone in attendance.
Principal Prays for Prosperity and Education
The school’s Principal, P. Shailaja Jaikumar, lit a lamp before the Krishna idol and offered a special Karnika flower. In her address, she spoke about the significance of the festival. “Vishu is a celebration of new beginnings, not only for the year but also for education. It reminds us to appreciate nature’s blessings and to adapt to the changing world around us,” she said, emphasising the importance of respecting nature’s wealth.
Student Performances and Festive Attire Add to the Joy
The festivities also included a performance of a Vishu-based Malayalam song by students Samrajni Kumari and Kakun Kumari, both from Class 12. Teachers and students dressed in traditional South Indian attire, which further enhanced the festival’s celebratory mood. The entire school community joined in prayer for the school’s progress and a bright future for the country.
