SAIL news: BSL’s upgraded Blast Furnace-4 enhances productivity while reducing carbon emissions


Bokaro: Bokaro Steel Plant’s (BSL) Blast Furnace No. 4 has undergone repair and upgradation, including the installation of a new system to replace the old and outdated system.

The new system comprises BC, BLT PLC, and thyristorization of Blast Furnace -4 skip. Additionally, a new radar system for stock level indicator has been installed in the furnace. The upgraded facilities were inaugurated on Monday by Amarendu Prakash, Director-in-Charge of BSL.

“The new system is more reliable than the old one, consumes less energy, and reduces the furnace’s downtime. Moreover, the installation of the new system is a step towards reducing carbon emissions, which is crucial in the current scenario of environmental concerns. The upgraded facilities are expected to increase the productivity of the furnace,” said Manikant Dhan, BSL, spokesperson.

On the occasion of the light-up of the upgraded facilities, Director-in-Charge Amarendu Prakash congratulated all the concerned departments and personnel associated with the work.

The event was also attended by Executive Director (Projects) CR Mohapatra, Executive Director (Finance & Accounts) Suresh Rangani, Executive Director (MM) A Srivastava, CGM (Blast Furnace) MP Singh, and other senior officers. The successful upgrade of Blast Furnace No. 4 is expected to contribute significantly to BSL’s growth and development.
