In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in Ranchi on Monday morning, uncovering a substantial amount of cash totaling Rs 25 crore from the home of Jahangir Alam, who works as a servant for Sanjeev Lal, personal secretary (PA) to state rural development minister Alamgir Alam. The ED raided nine locations across different areas of Ranchi, suggesting the possibility of more unaccounted wealth in the region.
BJP state president Babulal Marandi called for the immediate dismissal of Alam Geer Alam, pointing out the high volume of cash discovered and questioning the integrity of the state government. “Who knows how many more ‘Dhankuber’ are hiding in this INDI alliance government? ” he asked, referencing individuals with substantial, unexplained wealth.
He also added, that “Kalpana Soren asks the public, what is the crime of her husband Hemant Soren ? Today, around Rs 25 crores recovered from the house of the servant of personal secretary of minister Alamgir Alam of Hemant Soren’s family is also giving evidence of the same. Now Kalpana Soren should publicly apologise to the people of Jharkhand for this serious crime.”
Sources suggest that Jahangir Alam has stated the funds belong to Sanjeev Lal, though further inquiries are ongoing.
Minister Alamgir Alam addressed the issue, noting Sanjeev Lal’s previous roles as PA for two other ministers, and stressed the importance of awaiting the ED’s conclusions before making further comments. He stated that Lal was hired based on his experience and qualifications, but recognised the severity of the situation as the investigation continues.
“Whatever you people are seeing on TV, we are also seeing the same, now what will be the conclusion of ED will be told later. Sanjeev is my departmental PS, he is a government employee and we hire PS only after seeing him as experienced,” said Alamgir Alam.
