In her thesis, Dr. Aakriti addresses the urgent issue of firearm-related violence in the United States, where fatalities have surpassed 350,000 over the past decade. Her study focuses on the city of Baltimore, which has experienced a notable increase in such violence, emphasising the critical need for intervention strategies.

Employing advanced spatial analysis techniques, Dr. Aakriti investigates the association between vacant homes and firearm-related crimes in Baltimore City, Maryland. Her study leverages comprehensive datasets on property vacancies, crime incidents, and neighbourhood characteristics to explore the intricate relationships between these variables.
