Bokaro: Vedanta ESL Steel Limited is expanding its operations in Bokaro of Jharkhand and is actively seeking a seasoned professional to fill the role of Director- Central Engineering.
This key position is vital for driving the company’s ambitious growth plans, which include a two-phase expansion. The first phase aims to double production capacity from 1.5 million tonnes (MT) to 3 MT through a Brownfield project, while the second phase will increase capacity to 10 MT via a Greenfield project.
ESL sources said, the ideal candidate will have over 18 years of experience in integrated steel plant engineering, with expertise in areas such as blast furnaces, BOF, coke ovens, and power plants. A B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Director – Central Engineering will oversee the integrated steel plant engineering functions, including blast furnaces, BOF, coke ovens, power plants, RMHS, sinter plants, rolling mills, and utilities. This role involves leading maintenance and reliability initiatives with a focus on preventive and predictive maintenance. The Director will be responsible for setting and managing the departmental budget, including reviewing financial statements, monitoring line efficiencies, labor costs, and other expenses. They will also plan and implement engineering designs to improve reliability and maximize equipment and plant utilization. Additionally, the role includes contributing to the business through technology upgrades, induction of new technologies, and capacity enhancement, while driving Fast Improvement Projects (FIP) and CAPEX investments to reduce cost of production (COP). Continuous improvement in asset optimization through structured maintenance practices, automation, and digitalization will be a key focus.

The ideal candidate will lead the engineering team, foster collaboration, and maintain the company’s technical standards. They should be adept at integrating functions across civil, mechanical, electrical, and common services. Knowledge of spares and maintenance planning, as well as experience with both rotating and non-rotating equipment, and familiarity with Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) systems are essential.
