Bokaro: A joint inspection at the Railway Siding in Bokaro Steel City, Balidih, exposed severe non-compliance with coal storage and environmental regulations. The inspection team uncovered substantial violations among 21 dealers associated with the power sector, who were failing to adhere to the registration conditions set by their permits.
Dealers Fail to Meet Storage Standards
The inspection highlighted that these dealers were not storing coal by category and license type as required. In response, District Mining Officer Ravi Kumar Singh directed the dealers to address these storage violations and implement necessary pollution control measures.
Joint Team Inspects the Site
“Following directives from Vijaya Jadhav, a joint team consisting of the District Mining Department, Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) Survey Team, and Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) inspected the Bokaro Steel City Railway Siding (BKSC),” stated the Deputy Commissioner (DC). During the visit, the team measured the stored coal and collected samples for further analysis.
Environmental Failures Noted
The inspection also revealed widespread pollution control failures, including the absence of water sprinklers, coal stock exceeding boundary walls, and dust accumulation on access roads. The dealers were instructed to rectify these issues and ensure full compliance with the environmental standards set by the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board.
Directive Issued for Immediate Rectification
Ravi Kumar Singh has mandated that the 21 dealers and related departments rectify all deficiencies immediately. A compliance report is required to be submitted to ensure all environmental and regulatory standards are met efficiently.
