Powerful Debate on AI’s Ethical Impact: St Xavier’s Trisha and Pentecostal Assembly’s Arpan emerge victorious


Bokaro: An inter-school debate competition was recently held at the main auditorium of the Department of Learning and Development, Human Resources. The event focused on the topic “Artificial Intelligence weakens a person’s integrity and ability to make thoughtful ethical reasoning,” sparking deep discussions among the participants. The debate was conducted in both English and Hindi, attracting 48 students from 12 schools.

Executive Director (Human Resources and Additional Charge Operations), Rajan Prasad, along with Chief General Manager (Vigilance) and ACVO Gyanesh Jha, presided over the inaugural session as chief guests. Distinguished Jury Evaluates Debaters 
The debate competition was evaluated by a distinguished jury that included prominent figures such as V.K. Singh, former Chief General Manager (L&A), Manikant Dhan, General Manager (Public Relations) and Head Communication, and Richa Priyadarshini, a writer and Secretary of the Women’s Committee. Their vast experience in various fields brought a well-rounded perspective to the judging process, ensuring that the students’ arguments were critically assessed for their content, clarity, and ethical reasoning.

St. Xavier’s and Pentecostal Assembly Schools Take the Lead 
The competition saw strong performances, especially from students of St. Xavier’s School and Pentecostal Assembly School. In the English debate category, Trisha Sinha of St. Xavier’s School secured the first prize with her compelling arguments, followed closely by her schoolmate Rishon Martis, who earned second place. Hrithik Kashyap of Guru Govind Singh Public School achieved third position, while Daniel Ahmed of Pentecostal Assembly School was awarded the consolation prize for his efforts. In the Hindi debate category, the top positions were claimed by students from Pentecostal Assembly School. Arpan Kumar won first place, while Iha Singh secured the second spot with her strong arguments. Anushka Arya from Delhi Public School earned third place, and Akriti Mishra from Guru Govind Singh Public School received the consolation prize. Winners to be Honored at Vigilance Awareness Week 
The winners of the debate competition will be recognized during the closing ceremony of Vigilance Awareness Week, scheduled for November 2, 2024. This platform not only provided students with the opportunity to express their thoughts on the ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence but also encouraged critical thinking and responsible behavior. It highlighted the role of young minds in shaping the future of technology and its ethical usage.
