Bokaro’s MGM School turns into Parliament: Students showcase leadership skills


Bokaro: The fourth youth parliamentary session was successfully organised at MGM Higher Secondary School, Sector 4, with the participation of students from grades 9 to 12. The event, held under the guidance of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, aimed to familiarise young minds with the intricacies of the Indian parliamentary system. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese, Principal of MGM School, attended the event as the guest of honor, and Vice Principal Rakhi Banerjee welcomed the attendees.

Principal Applauds Students’ Involvement

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Joshi Varghese praised the students’ efforts in executing the session. He emphasised that such engagements help students understand the working of the parliamentary system, which could spark their interest in governance and politics. According to him, participating in these activities builds essential knowledge for those who may wish to pursue a career in the field.

Protem Speaker, Prime Minister, and Key Ministers Elected

The parliamentary session began with the election of the Protem Speaker and the oath-taking ceremony of the student ministers. Atharva Jha of Class XI took on the role of Protem Speaker and administered the oath of membership to the newly elected MPs. The session featured Raima Mandal of Class XII as the Prime Minister, while Saksham Jha of Class X took on the role of Leader of the Opposition. Anshika Singhania served as the Union Road and Transport Minister, contributing to the lively debates during the session.

Interactive Question Hour and Active Student Participation

During the session’s Question Hour, MP Ronit Tirkey raised financial issues, which were addressed by Kajal Ojha, acting as the Finance Minister. MP Ayan Azhar brought up concerns regarding railway maintenance, with Railway Minister Mirinal Vinayak Jha providing answers. The youth parliament saw impressive participation from around 75 students who played different roles in simulating a real parliamentary session. The session concluded with words of appreciation from the Speaker, applauding the efforts and active participation of all the young parliamentarians.

School Leaders and Teachers Present to Support the Event

The school’s Educational Director George Joseph, Headmistress Sapna Joshi, along with social science teachers, were present to support the event and guide the students.
