Bokaro: The 23rd Jharkhand Pedicon-2024, a three-day workshop, was organised by the Indian Academy of Pediatricians, Bokaro branch, at Hans Palace in Sector 1 of the town. The theme of the event, “Healthy Brain, Smart Baby,” emphasised child health from birth to 12 years. On the second day, Saturday, the workshop included four insightful sessions, with leading pediatricians sharing their knowledge and expertise.
Welcoming the Guests
Dr. Pankaj Kumar (Joint Organising Secretary), Dr. Sanjay Kumar (Treasurer), Dr. Kamakhya (Registration Committee), Dr. Imran (Accommodation Committee Member), and Dr. Pankaj Kashyap (Cultural Committee) welcomed the guest doctors. They emphasised that the Pedicon conference in Bokaro is set to become a milestone event, addressing critical aspects of pediatric healthcare. Discussions covered various childhood diseases, the impact of environmental factors during pregnancy, and measures to safeguard children’s health.

The workshop highlighted that children, from birth through age 12, face multiple health challenges, exacerbated by factors such as pollution. The event aimed to equip health professionals with the knowledge to better manage these conditions. Participants noted the importance of ensuring a healthy environment for expectant mothers to minimize complications in newborns, who often face numerous diseases post-delivery. The workshop’s sessions provided guidance on effective treatment and preventive measures.

During the workshop, eight expert doctors addressed four sessions:
Session 1: Supportive Care for Newborns
– Dr. Rajiv Sharan and Dr. Rameshwar discussed the importance of attentive supportive care and interfacing for newborns. They highlighted that healthcare professionals must handle newborns with alertness to ensure their safety and health.
Session 2: Therapy Effectiveness through HFNC
– Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Dr. Kumar Diwakar shed light on how High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy is effective in treating newborn illnesses. They explained how this method can assist in respiratory care, providing better outcomes for infants.\
Session 3: Benefits of CPAP Therapy
– Dr. Bhavesh Kant and Dr. Shashank spoke about Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). This therapy, which uses pressurized air to keep the airways open, improves sleep quality, reduces snoring, and helps manage conditions like high blood pressure and stroke risk.
Session 4: Insights on Nasal IAB and SMIV
– Dr. Vision Saha and Dr. Shreya Akanksha concluded with a session on Nasal IAB and SMIV, discussing their role in modern ventilator-based treatments. This lecture provided critical insights for managing respiratory issues in infants.
