Bokaro: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and RITES Ltd for Pre Dispatch Inspection (PDI) of materials procured by company’s Material Management (MM) Division. The MoU was signed by chief general manager (MM), BSL, Biplab Kumar Choudhury and group general manager (I) RITES Ltd, Rajesh Aggarwal in the presence of director incharge, Amarendu Prakash, ED (MM) V. K. Pandey and CGMs of MM Division F R Azmi and Anil Kumar.
This MoU will enable BSL to get the Pre dispatch inspection (PDI) of critical drawing-based items and high value items done by Quality Assurance (QA) Division of RITES Ltd. The QA division is one of the premier Divisions of RITES started in 1975, engaged in Quality Surveillance and Pre-Dispatch Inspections of parts, equipment, plants and material in India and abroad. BSL is a unit of Steel Authourity of India Limited (SAIL).
BIADA Units will also be benefitted by this MoU as the Quality Assurance Division of RITES will now be doing the pre-dispatch inspection at their sites itself, wherever required and this will help them resolve the quality issues before supply of material. In this way, cases of rejection of materials after supply will automatically come down or liquidated in most cases, said Manikant Dhan, spokesperson, BSL.
This MOU is one more step taken by MM department of BSL towards ease of doing business. It will ensure timely inspection and availability of the material to BSL. Presently, BSL deputes officers from Inspection Department to conduct the Pre dispatch Inspection at suppliers manufacturing sites which has become difficult due to COVID situation. Notably, RITES Ltd. is a Government of India Enterprise under the aegis of Indian Railways and RITES QA division is operating in more than 40 locations all across India.
The implementation of this MoU is likely to pave the way for development and refinement of number of Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs) for different items ensuring better quality spares and equipments being procured by BSL.
