Bokaro: The Jharkhand Music Festival 2025 was splendidly organised on Saturday evening at Kalakendra, Sector 2D, Bokaro, under the joint aegis of Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, and the Indian Music Art Academy, Bokaro. Held to mark Jharkhand Foundation Day, the auditorium remained packed with music lovers who gathered to witness the cultural extravaganza. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Kumar Sanjay Jha, Dr. T. M. Singh, secretary Sajal Kousar and Dr. Rakesh Ranjan with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
Melodic Performances Enthral the Audience
The evening opened with a graceful group tabla recital by academy students, setting a vibrant tone. This was followed by a mesmerising performance by renowned classical vocalist Piu Mukherjee from Kolkata, who captivated listeners with renditions in Raga Yaman, Raga Majh Khamaj and Raga Peelu, drawing warm appreciation from the audience.
Kathak Recital Becomes the Highlight of the Evening
The festival’s major attraction was an exquisite Kathak performance by acclaimed dancer Dr. Sameera Kousar from Chandigarh. She presented Krishna Vandana, traditional Kathak compositions and the expressive dance drama ‘Kaya Swaroopa,’ displaying remarkable command over rhythm, expression and technique. The ensemble of supporting artists on tabla, sarod and vocals elevated the experience.

The event drew classical art enthusiasts from Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Ranchi and Jamshedpur, making the evening a grand celebration of India’s timeless cultural heritage.
