Bokaro: In a closely contested election, Narendra Kumar Banchor, President of the Bhilai Steel Plant Officers Association (BSPOA), has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Steel Executive Federation of India (SEFI). Banchor secured victory by defeating A.K. Singh, President of the Bokaro Steel Officers Association (BSOA), with a margin of 18 votes. This marks Banchor’s third consecutive term as SEFI Chairman, a position he has held since 2018.
Vice Presidential Positions Split Between Competitors
The recent SEFI elections, conducted at the Crown Plaza in Kochi, also saw significant competition for the vice presidential roles. The general secretary of BSOA, Ajay Pandey, was elected as one of the two vice chairman, receiving 16 votes. The other vice president position was won by Narendra Singh, who garnered 35 votes. A total of 45 members from 16 different units, including SAIL, MECON, RINL, and NINL, participated in the election, with each unit represented by three members. Banchor’s Previous Successes Strengthen His Position
Narendra Kumar Banchor’s reputation and influence among officers from various steel units have played a pivotal role in his repeated electoral victories. His strong relationships with officers in Burnpur, Durgapur, Rourkela, and beyond have solidified his standing within SEFI. Banchor’s previous tenure as General Secretary in 2016 and as a nominee in 2009 has equipped him with valuable experience that has contributed to his sustained success.
A.K. Singh’s Third Defeat Leaves Aspirations Unfulfilled
Despite being a former General Secretary of SEFI, A.K. Singh has faced disappointment in his bids for the chairmanship, losing to Banchor for the third time. This election outcome underscores Banchor’s dominance within SEFI and raises questions about the future strategies of Singh and other competitors in the steel executive community. “I am honored to have received the support of my colleagues, and I am excited about the opportunity to serve in this capacity. While we faced tough competition, I believe that the collective vision and dedication of the BSOA will continue to play a significant role in advancing the interests of our officers.
My focus will be on enhancing collaboration among different units and ensuring that the voices of all officers are heard within SEFI. Together, we can work towards addressing the challenges in the steel industry and promoting welfare initiatives that benefit our members and the broader community.
