Bokaro gets an automatic weather station

Bokaro: The first automatic weather station of the district was installed at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Petarwar block of Bokaro. Birsa Agricultural University has supported its establishment.

Farmers can now receive complete weather information up to a week in advance, based on which they can make farming plans. A satellite-based automatic weather station will provide rain, temperature, and wind speed information automatically.

Scientist of KVK Dr Anil Kumar said “This will facilitate pre-farming preparation, planting and protecting of crops, and planning for the future. It is the first center of the district. Previously, such information was obtained through Birsa Agricultural University”.

He added “It was installed in July, but it only began functioning properly now. By providing real-time weather information to IMD, Pune, they provide us with the forecast, and we provide advice to the farmers. To provide farmers with weather information, we have made a database of 5000 farmers and we plan to add more as we complete it”.

This district is prone to thunderstorms and excessive rainfall or little rain. In the absence of timely information, many people are killed in lightning storms and crops are ruined by scant rains. The establishment of this Weather Station will eliminate such problems for good.

This station will provide accurate data about the minimum and maximum temperatures, humidity in the atmosphere, rainfall, wind velocity, radiation status in the sun’s rays, moisture levels in the soil, and acid content in the air.
