BSL director incharge holds meeting in wake of BF.7 variant-
In wake of an increasing number of Covid – 19 cases in some countries and new travel guidelines being issued by the Centre, the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has suspended the biometric attendance system from Monday.

The steel major issued a notification in this regard on Saturday following a meeting chaired by its director-in-charge Amarendu Prakash while making plans to counter the infection. Around 11,000 employees of the public sector unit were using the biometric system.

More than 900 BSL employees infected in second wave-
In the last three waves of the pandemic, several BSL employees and their family members were infected with over 900 in the second wave alone. The second wave of infection among the employees is accounted for 70% of the total infections in the PSU so far.

Among the measures the BSL management took up to prevent the infection are testing, vaccination, sanitization, fogging, and awareness among others both inside and outside the plant. But the management could hardly contain the virus from spreading.

BSL suspends biometric attendance amid Covid fears-
This time, it has asked all its departments to review the preparedness to deal with the situation better. BSL public relations officer Abhinav Shankar said, “As a preventive measure, it has been decided to suspend the palm vein biometric at trend system from December 26 till further orders.”

“Attendance will continue to be marked by the earlier procedure. All departments were asked to ensure that their employees follow the Covid appropriate behaviour,” said Shankar.

BSL registered huge profits during pandemic-
The PSU is a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and had registered huge profits during the last financial year despite the Covid pandemic. Even during the lock down, BSL employees have been performing their duties regularly. During that period, cases of mass infection were detected in many departments, but production didn’t stop.
