Bokaro’s 10th Board Exam Results Drop: DC issues show cause notices to 61 principals

Bokaro: The Jharkhand Academic Council’s 10th board examination results, announced on April 19, showed a significant decline in Bokaro district’s performance. This prompted Deputy Commissioner Jadhav Vijaya Narayan Rao to issue show cause notices to the principals of underperforming schools.

This marked the first time such decisive action was taken in the district immediately following the board exam results. Click here to join Whatsapp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va98epRFSAsy7Jyo0o1x

The overall pass rate decreased by approximately seven percent compared to the previous year. Last year, the pass rate stood at 95.48 percent, while this year it fell to 88.03 percent. Notably, 61 schools in the district underperformed significantly compared to the district average, prompting the Bokaro Deputy Commissioner (DC) to take action.

The DC issued show cause notices to the principals of the underperforming schools, requiring them to respond to the District Education Officer (DEO) within 24 hours. If satisfactory responses are not received, the salaries of the principals and teachers of these schools may be withheld until further notice.

In a letter addressed to the school principals, the DC emphasised the district’s poor performance, which ranked 19th at the state level. The letter highlighted various issues contributing to the disappointing results, including a lack of focus on practice question papers for pre-board exams, insufficient identification of weaker students, and a failure to conduct remedial classes.

The letter also raised concerns about a general lack of interest in educational activities, work negligence, and misuse of government resources. To address these issues, the DC has requested a list of subject-wise failed students from the schools to aid in supplementary examination preparations. This action is aimed at improving performance and providing targeted support to students who did not pass.

District Education Officer Jagarnath Lohra confirmed that most of the schools have provided responses to the show cause notices within the stipulated 24-hour timeframe. The administration aims to use these explanations to address the root causes of underperformance and improve the quality of education in the district.
