Budding environmentalist & BSL’s GM, Navin Prakash elected as chairman of Institution of Engineers (India), Bokaro


Bokaro: The general manager of Environment Control Department (ECD) of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), Navin Prakash Srivastava has been elected as chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India), Bokaro on Tuesday.

Srivastava is also an environmentalist. With his brilliance and innovative ideas, he has made a major contribution in the field of environmental conservation and waste minimization in Bokaro Township.

The executive committee members conducted a formal election process, in which Srivastava got unanimously elected as chairman and Sunil Kumar, another GM in BSL hold the position of secretary for the session 2021-2023.

Both the BSL officers will assume charge during Annual General Meeting scheduled in the month of October, 2021. Present chairman, Y N Singh alongwith the members congratulated both of them.

Under Srivastava’s headship, BSL is bagging prestigious Greentech Award consecutively for the past five years. Greentech Environment Awards is presented in recognition of responsible, innovative practices and initiatives towards achieving sustainable goals.

Apart from working on different projects, Srivastava is mainly focused on reaffirming the importance of the “Generation of wealth from waste” in the circular economy. With his hard work, Srivasatava and his team comprising Nitesh Ranjan developed a potential market for solid wastes of BSL in Jharkhand.

BSL, a unit of Steel Authourity of India Limited (SAIL), is now utilising 98.12 percent of its generated solid waste. It earns more than Rs 550 crores revenue annually by selling its solid wastes in an open market. Apart from earning this huge amount, the company is also saving around Rs 250-280 crores yearly by recycling or reusing these wastes again in the production process.

Being a convenor of the Institution of Engineers, Srivastava presently is working on Water Conservation through 3R’s Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. With an aim to conserve water that goes waste in Bokaro Township, he is exploring more on Nanotechnology in waste water management, Rain water harvesting, natural water conservation, zero affluent discharge, etc.
