Bokaro: There is a temple of Goddess Durga at Chakuliya village, under the Chas Block of Bokaro, that is visited by many people with a wish to have a daughter. It is strongly believed that anyone who wishes to have a daughter, if he prays to Goddess Durga here with full devotion, his wish will come true. The temple is over 170 years old.
Couples desiring a daughter often visit the temple. Durga Puja is done by the villager’s in the temple in an extremely traditional manner. Residents said that people from outer areas also visit here.
According to villagers, first, Kalicharan Dubey wished that Goddess Durga grant him a daughter, and he got one. This incident happened more than 100 years ago. From then on, people come each year Durga Puja with a wish for a daughter and offered puja to the goddess. “Dubey’s descendants still pray to the deity regularly,” said Suryakant Singh, a resident of the village.
“I too had a son and offered prayers for my daughter in this temple, which the goddess has answered”. Many people in this area can share their experiences about getting a daughter from Goddess Durga. Every year, the temple continues to see an increase in devotees.
The daughter of another resident, Katayani Devi, has been given the name Bhawani as she was blessed by Goddess Durga.
A priest of the temple, Manohar Dubey, said that devotees are increasing. The people are praying to the goddess in order to have a daughter. They have come from far-flung areas for this reason. A magnificent statue of Siddhidatri Goddess Durga has been installed in the temple. It has been a tradition for over 100 years.”
They have a copper kalaash (pot) that is more than 150 years old. This pot is used for Durga Puja (Ghatstahapana) every year.
