Bokaro: Several displaced youths gathered at the main administrative building of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on Wednesday to demand jobs against the apprentice training they received. The main gate of BSL’s headquarters was blocked for about eight hours, causing great inconvenience to employees and officials.
BSL’s security personnel tried to stop the agitators, but they broke the security cordon and sat on a dharna, blocking the main gate. They accused the management of not keeping their promise. Also, anti-BSL slogans were raised.
Since 2020, these displaced youth have been staging demonstrations after completing apprenticeship training provided by BSL. The youths formed the “Displaced Apprentice Association” and continually agitated against the BSL management for not providing job.
According to Amzad, an agitator, the BSL management provides apprenticeship training to displaced unemployed youth. Their employment was also prioritized. Unemployed youth who have been trained since 2020 are waiting for a job, but to no avail. Management is only providing them with assurances.
“We will intensify our protest if management does not provide a job,” he said.
