In Bokaro, police have arrested a man who admitted hiding stolen jewelry in a child’s grave at Garga Burning (Shamshan) Ghat that he stole from a house in Sector-3. The house belongs to a close relative of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. When police went to the location to recover the stolen jewels, he didn’t find them because they had been taken by someone else.
Four accused were arrested by the City Police Station in connection with thefts in houses, including of a relative of the IPS. The arrested accused is Billu, a resident of Camp Two Hanuman Nagar. Three of the others are minors.
Billu told the police, he wrapped the stolen jewelry in cloths and hided in Child’s grave after stealing it from a house in Sector-3. That grave was near Garga Shamshan Ghat. For identification, they covered it with soil and placed two bricks. The police investigated and found that the house which Billu narrated belongs to a relative of a IPS officer. However the police went to the spot but did not find the ornaments, which indicates that they were stolen from there by someone else.
Billu with his three associates were arrested recently in a theft occurred in Sector-1. According to sources, Mohammad Azhar, resident of house 108 in Sector 1B, went out on Sunday night. On returning to the house in the night itself, he discovered the lock had been broken. However, he caught an accused who had entered the house and informed the police. Police arrived and nabbed him.
He was a juvenile who told the names of his three associates who managed to flee. Later, three teenagers were arrested based on his statement. During police interrogation, the accused admitted his involvement in the theft in few houses including residence, which belongs to IPS Indrajit Mahatha’s brother-in-law, Shashank Shekhar. Mahatha is currently posted as ZAP commandant. About one lakh rupees in cash and gold and silver ornaments were stolen from Shekhar’s house.
