Odia Community in Bokaro celebrates Utkal Divas


Bokaro: The Utkal Seva Samiti celebrated Utkal Divas at Geeta Bhawan of Jagannath Mandir on the foundation day of Odisha’s statehood.

A cultural program filled with music and dance was performed by the members of the Utkal Seva Samiti and their children. Also, a small group of local children, guided by dance teacher Mrs Aparna Sen, performed Odishi and Sambaluri dance.

Dr U Mohanty, Dr RN Pradhan, Haldhar Behera, PC Kar, Prabodh Mohanty, and Lambodar Upadhyaya inaugurated the event. The gathering was addressed by Dr U Mohanty and PC Kar, who recounted the achievements and heritage of Odisha.

Ramakrishna Behera, Lambodar Upadhya, and Priyadarshini Parida mesmerised the audience with some popular Oriya bhajans and film songs. Suchismita Panda conducted the program.

The Odia speaking population in and around Bokaro displayed excitement and enthusiasm. Bokaro Jagannath Mandir, managed by Utkal Seva Samiti, has grown into a very popular tourist spot and various cultural and religious events celebrated here contribute to Bokaro’s vibrant city life.

Utkal Divas or Utakala Dibasha is celebrated on April 1 every year to remember the formation of the Odisha state after a struggle to be recognised as an independent state. Under the British rule, Odisha was part of the Bengal presidency, which consisted of the present-day Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha.
