Bokaro: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed through virtual meet between Bokaro Steel Plant (SAIL-BSL) and IIT KANPUR to identify and pursue joint research projects in the areas of Steel Making and Digital Transformation relevant to SAIL-BSL.
From BSL side Atanu Bhowmik, ED (Works) signed the MOU and S Mukhopadhyay, CGM (Maintenance & Digital Champion) signed as witness. V K Pandey, ED(MM) was the guest of honor during the ceremony.
From IIT Kanpur side Professor A R Harish, Dean, Research & Development department, IIT Kanpur with Professor Y N Singh, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur were present during the ceremony.
Bhowmik, stated that this MOU will collaborate joint research and development project in different areas of steel plant including environment and safety. He also emphasized that the rich field experience of our people and the vast knowledge and expertise of academicians from IIT Kanpur will help drive synergy and create values for both the top notch institutions( BSL & IIT KANPUR).
Mukhopadhyay informed that collaborative work of the SAIL’s Bokaro steel plant and IIT Kanpur will aide in our Digital Transformation journey and to establish better practices in the areas of operations, maintenance and supply chain using deep tech and Industry 4.0 technologies.
ED(MM) also emphasized the importance of MoU with premier educational institution in areas of Digital Transformation. The MOU will be the umbrella to utilize facilities and expertise of IIT Kanpur in areas of Industry 4.0 Digital Transformation.
Professor Harish expressed his happiness during signing of MOU and expected good number of collaborations in core R&D areas related to steel making and Industry-4.0 and digital transformation. Professor Y N Singh also informed the vast pool of knowledge available in IIT Kanpur will facilitate in-depth research in areas of Machine Learning and Data Analytics.
From SAIL-BSL Nidhi,(Sr. Manager, C&A department) compered the programme and R K Ravi, (Sr. Manager, Electronics and Telecommunication), managed the facilities of the virtual meeting. Bipin Krishna Sartape (CGM- C, A & Communication) , Vijay Kumar GM(C & A) coordinated the MOU signing ceremony.
