Bokaro: Within 72 hours of the trade union strike, the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) management on Saturday suspended four employees of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). These employees have been handed over the charge sheet and asked to hand over their gate pass and identity cards to the Officer-in-Charge of BSL plant main gate, CISF today.
This is for the first time in the past five years when SAIL has taken such strict action against employees in BSL.
According to the sources, SAIL-BSL has currently taken action against the employees who had made the situation dangerous by disrupting the work in the blast furnace on the day of the strike. “This action is not related to the strike, but disciplinary action has been taken against those employees who disrupt or abet work in a very sensitive shop like blast furnace on the day of the strike,” said an officer.
It is being told that the blast furnace incident is being considered very serious by the management. However, it is also discussed that many more people have been identified in this episode, on whom, similar action can be taken soon. Management is all set to take the strictest action so that such incidents should not be repeated again in the future.
The Chief General Manager (CGM) , Personnel Department, BSL, Pawan Kumar has handed over the charge sheet cum suspension order – to the four employees including R Kumar of Machine Shop Department and R Kumar OG-2 – CBRS Department. And two employees R K Giri and B C Singh working in the Blast Furnace.
These four employees have been held liable for disciplinary action for committing indecent behavior, threatening, interfering with the work of other worker employees or other worker employees. Intimidating workman’employee of the company in the works or in the company’s premises. Sabotage or wilful damage to, or loss of company’s goods or property.
These employees have also been charged for conduct within the Company’s premises or its precincts that is likely to endanger the life or safety of any person. And, Failure to observe the safety rules as notified from time to time and to use safety equipment. BSL has asked those employees to submit their defense statements, if any, in writing within seven days from the date of receipt of the charge sheet.
The employees have been asked to produce their statements explaining why they should not be punished by holding them guilty of these charges. BSL has also told the above four employees that if their defence statement is not presented to them in due time, it will be presumed that they have no defense to present. And BSL will take disciplinary action against them ex-parte, as the above allegation is serious in nature.
BSL has also given strict instructions to the above four employees that they will not do any other employment, business, profession during the period of suspension. Now they will not even leave the headquarters without the permission of the BSL management. Work shall not enter the premises without the permission of the Management. During the period of suspension, they will be present at the main gate of the plant daily between 10.00 AM to 11.00 AM for attendance.
