Search operation conducted at closed CCL mine due to subsidence fears


Bokaro: Few persons who went into the closed mine to steal iron feared being trapped or buried as its layer subsided. The incident occurred on Saturday at five number closed mine of Jarangdih Colliery of Kathara Project of Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) in Bermo Sub-Division of the district.

As soon as the police were informed, Ravindra Kumar Singh, the station in-charge at Bokaro Thermal, sent a force to the area, but no one was found until the evening. The incident site is being investigated by police based on possible causes.

Following this incident, the police of Bokaro Thermal Station have recovered five tonnes of stolen iron lying at the spot.

CCL officials and police-administration said that there is no strong evidence that anyone has died, or someone has been injured. The rescue team has investigated inside. No one is trapped inside the mines. It is being told that thieves were cutting iron in the mines. This led to this incident.

On the spot, Bokaro Thermal’s Inspector cum SHO Ravindra Kumar Singh, Project Officer of CCL Jarangdih Colliery Naval Kishore Dubey, Manager Durgesh Kumar Sinha, Siding Manager Devanandan Prasad, SI Vikrant Munda Ajay Yadav, ASI Binod Kumar Munda, Security of CCL Kathara GM Unit Police personnel and CCL security personnel including in-charge Mahamaya Prasad etc. were present in large numbers.
