The government has temporarily shut down internet service after violence on Ranchi’s Main Road. Home Secretary Rajiv Arun Ekka has ordered that the service be stopped in Ranchi from 7 pm today (Friday) until 6 am tomorrow. Administration has temporarily stopped internet services offered by all mobile service providers, including Jio Fiber, to curtail rumours. Section 144 has been imposed in some areas by the order of Ranchi Sadar SDO.
On Friday afternoon, protesters took out a procession in Ranchi, calling for the arrest of BJP leader Nupur Sharma. Suddenly, the procession turned violent, and people started throwing stones at the police. To control the situation, the police lathi-charged the miscreants and fired gunshots in the air.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday expressed his concern over the violence, and urged the people to not to lose the patience.
