Vedanta’s ESL begin installation of makeshift Covid facility far from Chandankyari plant site, upset residents


Bokaro: Vedanta’s ESL Steel Plant started installation work of a makeshift dedicated Covid-19 facility at Library Ground of Sector-5 in Bokaro Steel Township on Friday. The temporary structure will consist 100 oxygen beds for the treatment of corona infected persons in this pandemic. The structure is a waterproof German hanger tent, which residents had seen during Momentum Jharkhand investor’s summit in 2017 and other political functions here.

However, setting up of temporary hospital has drawn huge reactions of residents of Chandankyari and Bokaro Township. While MLA, ex-MLA and residents of Chandankyari are criticising ESL for installing the Covid facility in Bokaro town, about 18 kilometres far from its operational area, many people of Bokaro are disappointed with their favourite ground in which they do morning walk, play and do physical exercises gets occupied.

Former MLA of Chandankyari, Umakant Rajak staged dharna at his residence on Wednesday demanding Covid medical facility from Vedanta’s ESL management in Chandankyari.

DC, Bokaro Rajesh Singh had said that in view of the continuous increase in the number of corona infected patients and the lack of Oxygen Bed in hospitals, it is necessary to ensure the availability of a sufficient quantity of Oxygen Beds at the district level so that proper medical support can be provided to the infected patients. Meanwhile, ESL officials speaking to mediapersons at Library Ground said, that this temporary hospital will be installed within 12 days. And will be handover to the district administration.

It is mentioned that, ESL steel plant is situated in Siyaljodi under Chandankyari Block. Residents and former MLA, Umakant Rajak are opposing ESL’s decision for installing medical facility in the town, away from the operational area. They have demanded from ESL management to open such facility in Chandankyari in benefit of local residents. However, ESL has claimed to develop 10 beds in the government primary health centre of Chandankyari for the people there. ESL spokesperson not responded on the matter.
