World Cancer Day: JCI, Jazbaa ask people to “Follow a healthy lifestyle, eat nutritious food and notice suspicious symptoms”


Bokaro: Junior Chamber International (JCI), Jazbaa of Bokaro observed World Cancer Day on Friday urging residents to follow a healthy lifestyle and consume nutritious food. Though many events were organised on the day by different groups in the district, the awareness session hold by JCI, Jazbaa was different, as it was done in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Bokaro Chapter.

The campaign theme ‘I Am and I Will’, seeks to counter the negative attitude that nothing can be done about cancer, and instead promote how personal actions can be helpful. Treasurer of JCI, Jazbaa Gyatari Sinha said the woman members along with the prominent doctors of IMA urged people to take action, follow a healthy lifestyle and also help those suffering from cancer.

The project coordinator Dr. Mita Sinha holding the session spread awareness about cancer and the stigma associated with the disease. “We should get unite and fight against the disease by detection, early diagnosis, treatment, and extending moral support”. Dr Mita Sinha added, “WHO says that one-third of the deaths from cancer are due to five leading behavioural and dietary risk — high body mass index, low fruits and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and alcohol use.

During the session, Dr Mita Sinha also said that the two most common types of cancer among women include cervical cancer and breast cancer. It can be cured if detected at an early stage. Therefore it is important to pay notice to the first suspicious signs or symptoms.

On this occasion, the chairman of JCI, Mini Kapoor, secretary Kajal Bhalotia and other members Nirupama Singh, Deepti Singh, Gayatri Singh, Sana, Sonia, Sushmita, Amy Mishra were present. It is mentioned here, World Cancer Day is an international day that was observed to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer.
