Bokaro: In a major step towards bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice, an industrial exposure visit sponsored by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was organised on Friday for students of Guru Gobind Singh Educational Society’s Technical Campus at the Bokaro Timber Seasoning Plant in Balidih. Around 50 students from the engineering and management departments participated in the educational tour aimed at enhancing practical understanding of industrial operations and quality standardisation processes.

BIS initiative gives students first-hand industrial learning experience
The industrial visit was coordinated by Saurabh Rai of BIS. During the programme, students were introduced to various production techniques, timber seasoning processes and quality control mechanisms followed in the plant. Faculty members accompanying the students included Dean Academics and Head of Civil Engineering Dr. Rajendra Prasad Verma, Diploma Engineering Coordinator Prof. Azhar Imam, and MBA Head Dr. Shafaq Rahmat, who guided the students throughout the visit.

Plant manager explains importance of quality and standardisation
Plant manager Madan Jain interacted with the students and explained the significance of standardisation in industrial production. He also highlighted the role of BIS Clubs in promoting awareness about quality products, safety standards and industrial benchmarks among young professionals. Students were informed about how standardisation helps industries maintain product reliability and consumer trust in competitive markets.
Nearly 150 students registered under BIS Club at the institution
Officials said Dr. Rajendra Prasad Verma is the institutional mentor of the BIS Club at the campus. Nearly 150 students are currently registered with the club and regularly participate in awareness and industrial learning programmes organised under BIS initiatives.
College management hails industrial exposure programme
Institution chairman Tarsem Singh, secretary Surendra Pal Singh and director Dr. Priyadarshi Jaruhar congratulated the faculty members and participating students for the successful visit.
They said such industrial exposure programmes are regularly organised by the institution to strengthen practical knowledge, industry interaction and professional skills among students, preparing them for future career challenges.
