Call for Journalist Protection Act echoes in Jharkhand Assembly

During the ongoing budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly, MLA Rajesh Kachap voiced concerns regarding the safety of journalists. Addressing concerns during the Zero Hour, Kachap emphasised the alarming trend of fake cases filed against journalists in the state, alongside physical attacks targeting those who diligently report news.

Highlighting the pivotal role journalists play as societal mirrors, Kachap underscored their unwavering commitment to truth despite risking their lives. He asserted that ensuring the safety, freedom, and advancement of journalists falls squarely within the state government’s responsibility.

Kachap called upon the government to prioritise the enactment of the Journalist Protection Act, establish a Journalist Commission, provide free insurance, pension benefits, accreditation, and inclusion in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

These measures, he argued, are essential for safeguarding the integrity of journalism and protecting those who pursue it.
