Cricket: BCCI selects Sahil of Bokaro for Under-19 Challenger Trophy


Bokaro: Sahil Raj, 18, earned a place in the BCCI’s Under-19 Challenger Trophy, which will take place from November 2-10 in Ahmedabad. In Jharkhand, only two players, including Sahil of Bokaro, have been selected, according to PN Singh, Secretary of the District Cricket Association.

Sahil Raj has been selected for Team B. Sahil, who is an all-rounder, represented Jharkhand in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy cricket tournament for the first time in 2016-17. Following this, Sahil represented the Jharkhand Under 16 and Under 19 cricket teams continuously.

As the captain of Jharkhand Under-19 cricket team, Sahil scored 537 runs with the aid of a century and three half-centuries during the Cooch Behar Trophy cricket tournament. Singh said that the BCCI selected him for the Under-19 Challenger Trophy tournament based on his consistent performance.

Bokaro District Cricket Association officials wished Sahil Raj all the best in the future. Sahil, a student of Class-12, said, “I was born and raised in Baghmara and started playing cricket at the age of 16 for the Bokaro league. I played the Quadrangular India-U19 one-day series (Year 2018). I also played in the Ranji Trophy (Year 2020)-U19 in the years 17-18, 18-19, and 19-20”.

Sahil added, “I was also the captain of the U16 team. I have been passionate about cricket since childhood”. Furthermore, he said that there are seven members in my family, including two sisters and two brothers. His father doesn’t earn much. He also said, “my mother is homemaker. She is so simple but her unconditional love always admire me. My big brother has always supported me to play cricket”.
