Bokaro: A national-level Faculty Development Programme (FDP) sponsored by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi, was inaugurated virtually at Guru Gobind Singh Educational Society’s Technical Campus (GGSESTC) on Monday. The programme commenced with a Saraswati Vandana followed by a virtual presentation of a Sufi ghazal by internationally acclaimed artist Sana Nemat.

Focus on Emerging Engineering Challenges
The ISTE–VA Knowledge Enhancement Programme has been organized on the theme “Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrology, Waste Management and Risk Assessment.” The programme aims to enhance the knowledge and research capabilities of faculty members in critical areas of engineering and environmental sustainability.
Eminent Experts Join the Inaugural Session
The inaugural session was attended by several distinguished academicians and industry experts from across the country. Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Jharkhand University of Technology, addressed the participants. Special guests included Er. R.R. Jaruhar, former Member of the Railway Board and IRSE officer, Dr. A.M. Ali, Executive Secretary of ISTE New Delhi, Prof. J.N. Chakraborty of National Institute of Technology, and Prof. Anil Kumar, Professor in Practice at NITTTR Kolkata.

Participation from Institutions Across India
The programme witnessed participation from around 50 institutions from different states of the country. The event is being organized primarily by the Civil Engineering Department of GGSESTC, bringing together faculty members and researchers for knowledge exchange and professional development.
Coordinators and Faculty Members Play Key Role
Dr. Yasir Karim is serving as the coordinator of the programme, while Dr. Manojit Dey is the co-coordinator. Dr. R.P. Verma, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, along with ISTE members Prof. Mahmood Alam, Prof. Rashmi Thakur, Prof. Shehnaz Farheen, Prof. Alok Kumar and Prof. Apoorba Sinha, contributed significantly to the successful launch of the event.
GGSESTC Earns Prestigious National Grant
Speaking on the occasion, the institute’s director said ISTE Executive Secretary Dr. S.M. Ali highly appreciated the institution’s achievements. He highlighted that the ISTE BNY FDP grant was awarded to only 30 colleges across India and that GGSESTC is the only institution from Bihar and Jharkhand to receive this prestigious grant.
Programme Expected to Boost Research and Academic Quality
Addressing the gathering, Dr. D.K. Singh congratulated the organizers and faculty members for hosting the programme. He expressed confidence that the FDP would enhance academic quality, promote research-oriented learning and strengthen faculty competencies. Institute Chairman Tarsem Singh, Secretary S.P. Singh and Director Prof. (Dr.) Priyadarshi Jaruhar also extended their best wishes and hoped for the successful completion of the programme.
