Increasing Coronavirus cases force companies to adopt safety measures


Bokaro: Corona cases increased for the past five days has forced companies and PSUs to take safety measures. Employees have been asked by management to follow appropriate Covid behaviour. Companies like Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), Oil Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Dalmia Cement and others have appealed to their employees to follow Covid guidelines strictly.

On Saturday, the district recorded 43 positive cases today. There are a total 145 active cases of Covid here.

Of the steel, coal, cement and gas companies operating in the district, BSL management has focused more on the safety of its employees. The second wave of Coronavirus infected many BSL employees and officers. Due to recent spikes in Covid infections, Director-in-Charge Amarendu Prakash held a review meeting of online mode with senior officers in order to avoid such a situation in the future.

At the meeting, the Director-in-Charge instructed everyone to observe strict protocols related to the use of face masks and social distancing. Employees were instructed to take all precautions to protect themselves from Covid, inside and outside the plant. A directive was also given to stop unnecessary gatherings of people at one place in the plant and outside offices.

Prakash also stressed the importance of vaccination for all workers, both regular and contract. “As part of these preparations, instructions were also given to monitor entry into the plant by visitors so that the chances of infection by Covid can be minimised,” according to Manikant Dhan, chief of communication, BSL.

Meanwhile, ONGC has also restricted access to its campus for visitors. In addition to wearing masks, employees had to follow other safety instructions. Chief of corporate communication, ONGC, Rajeev Prasad said “As Corona cases spike, we are prepared to deal with it. 200 oxygen cylinders and 100 oxygen concentrators are in the ready state. Apart from that, masks and sanitizers have been made mandatory.”

Dalmia Cement in Balidih has also taken steps to ensure that its employees follow the company-issued Covid guidelines. Priya Ranjan, the unit’s head, said “we follow the Covid protocol strictly to prevent infection. Sanitizers and masks have been made mandatory”.
