Local markets gear up for Dhanteras


Bokaro: As people go out on their Dhanteras shopping spree, showrooms, shops, malls, and roadside markets are crowded. Roadside stalls selling decorating items, earthen lamps, jewellery and utensil showrooms are doing brisk business.

It is apparent that the public is extremely interested in boycotting Chinese products and buying diyas and decorative pieces this time around. “We will celebrate Diwali the traditional way, with crackers and diyaas. Chinese lights will not be used,” said Ankur, a resident. Shops with clothes, jewellery, electronics, mobile phones, utensils, etc. have been decorated in the market. Due to the high demand for Diwali products, shopkeepers are hoping to make a profit. Business in crores is expected on this day.

There are Diwali offers throughout many establishments. The demand for diamond jewelry has increased along with gold and silver jewelry. Jewelery shops are offering attractive discounts on jewelry and gifts with purchase.

Dhanteras is also a time of frenzied shopping in the electronics market. Many customers have already reserved their favorite products before Dhanteras so that the crowd of Dhanteras can be avoided, said Amit Kumar, a showroom owner. Different models of LED, Fridge, Washing Machine, Mobile, Oven, and Home Theater are available in the market.

Dhanteras is a time when utensils are traditionally purchased. Utensil shops are prepared for Dhanteras. The market has many temporary shops decorated in addition to the permanent ones. Since morning, people have started purchasing utensils. The shop owners expects good business.

The vehicle showrooms are also busy with customers on Dhanteras. The booking of vehicles began after Durga Puja in showrooms of two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Customers are more eager to bring the vehicle home on Dhanteras.
