Niti Aayog team lauds Birhor women’s skill in crafting baskets and mats

Bokaro: The NITI Aayog team from Delhi visited Birhortanda, which is located in Tulbul Panchayat of Gomia block under Bermo subdivision, on Saturday. The team met with the people of Birhor primitive tribe and became aware of their problems.
Team members praised the women of the tribe for their hard work in making ropes, baskets, mats, and other items. Members of the team assured them they would promote their skills and provide self-employment by establishing cottage industries.
Madhuri Pal, the coordinator of the team, interacted with Birhor women and men and learned about their problems. The Birhor community is completely dependent on the local forest for survival as a result of the lack of employment.
Among the Birhor, Moti Birhor, said people sell herbs by collecting them from the forest in a time of unemployment. Men sell ropes, baskets, and mats made by the women to the nearest market, and they get some money for their work.
Drinking water is scarce. There is an Anganwadi center here, whose building is completely dilapidated and others.
