SAIL-BSL brightens lives of hundreds of Divyangjan on ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’


Bokaro: SAIL-Bokaro Steel Plant under its CSR has joined hands with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Miniratna under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India to provide required assistive devices to the poor and needy DIVYANGJAN in Bokaro district.

To kickstart this campaign in association with ALIMCO and Bokaro District Administration, a camp was organized  at Asha Lata Viklang Vikas Kendra on 3rd December which also happens to be the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

Director Incharge BSL Amarendu Prakash, DC Bokaro  Kuldeep Chaudhary,  DDC Keerthi Shree, SDM Chas Dileep Singh Shekhawat, Executive Directors & Chief General Managers of BSL,  Sr.Manager ALIMCO Shri Anupam Prakash, GM(CSR) BSL CRK  Sudhanshu, Director Asha Lata BS Jaiswal and senior officials from BSL, District Administration, and ALIMCO were present during the event.

During the camp, various assistive aids and appliances for different kind of disabilities was distributed free of cost which includes, 11-Motorized Tricycle & 99- Wheelchair, 188-Conventional Tricycles, 462-Hearing Aids (BTE), 108-MSIED Kits for Mentally Impaired Children,  03-Smart Phone,  39-Smart Canes, 140-Crutches, 23-Rollators, Braille Cane/Slate, walkers and Prosthesis and Orthosis.

Prior to this event, screening camps at Jaridih, Chandankyari, Chas and Asha Lata Kendra were organized with the help of Bokaro District Administration to identify divyangjan in Bokaro district who were in need of these equipments. Accordingly, a total number of 714 beneficiaries were identified for the distribution of 1487 types of aids and assistive devices worth around Rs 70 Lakhs. In the first camp held on 3rd December at Asha Lata Kendra, aids and assistive devices worth around Rs 23 Lakh was distributed amongst 262 divyangjan.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Incharge BSL Amarendu Prakash said that SAIL-BSL under its CSR is committed for inclusive growth through empowerment and assistance of the divyanjan who form an integral part of our society. He also thanked the district administration and ALIMCO for coming forward in this noble cause.

DC Bokaro, Kuldeep Chaudhary underlined the importance of such interventions for the upliftment of divyanjan and commended SAIL-BSL, ALIMCO and the district administration team involved in this whole exercise. Executive Director (P&A), BSL Sanjay Kumar apprised the gathering on the background of this new initiative of BSL while Sr.Manager ALIMCO Anupam Prakash highlighted the various activities and plans of ALIMCO.

Notably, the CSR mission of SAIL has been guided by two elemental ideations, namely, the philosophy of enhancing the educational, health and environmental environs of the society and towards supplementing/supporting the ongoing and planned initiatives of the local, state or central government with projects / programs being located in and around its work places. Towards this end, BSL has entered into an MoU with ALIMCO recently for distribution of assistive aids amongst divyanjan worth Rupees One Crore.  A series of such camps are planned in the coming days for distribution of assistive aids amongst divyanjan, including prosthetics in the next phase of this campaign.
