BSL successfully upgraded filter-back washing system, water supply delayed 3 hrs in township

By taking up a 24-hour shut down, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) successfully transformed its Russian-made filter-back washing system. Water supply to many sectors was delayed by three to four hours by this on Thursday, but it would assist in reducing wastage. Water is being wasted due to the out-of-date filter backwashing system installed in the 24 MGD WTP. In a stretch of 350 meters, the combination of pipes and valves were changed. During its transformation, the valves, which were previously measured in inches, were changed to millimeters. The herculean task was carried out day and night by a team of 40 workers and officers led by A K Singh, general manager, Water supply department, Township. The sectors where water delivery was delayed are 2, 3, 4, 8, 12 and the Cooperative Colony. Water supply has been restored, according to sources. Newly installed system is easier to operate, which helps reduce waste.

According to Mantu Yadav, city president of JMM, the chief minister of the state has asked all government undertakings and private companies to give 75 percent reservation to displaced persons and locals. A ten-point demand letter was handed over to BSL Management after the rally. A demand letter includes 75 percent job reservation, the return of unused land to land owners, etc.
